Reasoning my 'Silence' :)

Hmm, so 'eid went by and so did new yr's eve - and for all of those who text'd me recvd back a thank u msg acknowledging it; but rarely did I send out a msg initiated myself
For those of you who got one from me, feel lucky - because somehow, it wasn't because I wasn't upto the 'festive mood', but another trillion reasons.

The biggest reason was, suffering Laryngitis this week! (I was totally out of voice!) Somehow others around me found it very amusing, that I was speaking like a wind-pipe, with hollow words; I think they only got what I was trying to say by lip synch-ing with me..But as amusing as it looked, if you ask me, it was a very 'helpless' situation.

It sure did make me ponder on quite a few things; like, how fortunate we are to have a voice to speak. I mean, I know that the four days that I had completely no voice in my larynx, I was banging on things or had to walk up all the way to a person downstairs in the house, when I could earlier just scream out that there's a 'phone for them on the land-line'!!!

I guess we take our blessings so much for granted, that for us our voice seems like just an ordinary thing, but it made me realise the helplessness of little babies in pain, the deaf and dumb who are challenged with this world so busy in its hustle bustle and noise, etc.

Well on a more positive note, it gave me a moment to ponder and practice the wonderful ahadith of the Ma'sumeen (AS) - especially Imam Ali (AS) who has numerous hadith on the wonders of talking and speaking less. I managed to get more work done in the privacy of my room, without having wasted my time on 'vocal' and social activities (I opted to stay home than be out and meet people and struggle to speak to them in sign language!) So, I used the energy saved from 'talking and socializing', on much more useful things!! hehe..
Other than that, I took out time to be a better listener and observer. I guess sometimes we just tend to listen or focus on things WE ourselves do, but when we can't get others to notice it (in cases where you cant 'voice' it out) then you DO tend to give a thought to all the things that existed around you and you never noticed..

So 'Eid and New years' were signficantly silent this year -yet contemplative- this year, with one less person to add to the noise pollution...
So, my thought for the year ahead: If all of us opted to speak less, the world would be lesser of pollution, envy, lies, misunderstandings, negativity, backbiting, gossip, slandering, etc etc....

I still don't wish for anyone to suffer laryngitis though! *chuckles*
With best wishes for 'Eid and New year 2007 to all of you and your families
Starting the year with an 'apparently silent' note, but hopefully more fruitful thoughts, Inshallah
Sadaf Zahra :)

Get well sooon Sadaf... I like your way of presenting stuff. Yes this word would be a better place with less noise pollution but don't we all love to talk...

Constructive talk can still be done!
